Chief Executive Officer
Chuak joined Ascalon to help establish Ascalon's Asian business in 2011, and was appointed Chief Executive of the broader group in late 2012. Chuak is responsible for growing the overall business and managing the executive team. Chuak is an executive director of Ascalon Capital Managers Asia and is on the board of several Ascalon partner firms. Chuak started his career at a Chartered Accounting firm and joined Bankers Trust in 1988, where he worked in business management and established their Singapore business. He joined ING Investment Management in 1998, where he led sales and marketing and also served as Chief Risk Officer, Asia Pacific. In 2007 he co-founded a hedge fund in Hong Kong and was COO until 2011. Chuak has 25 years' experience in investment management.
Head of Ascalon Australia
Rob heads up Ascalon in Australia reporting to Chuak Chan in Hong Kong. Before moving to Ascalon, Rob held senior positions for 15 years throughout Asia Pacific at Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers - culminating in being appointed Lehman's co-Head of the Equity Division for Asia Pacific in 2005. After leaving Lehman, Rob co-founded DragonBack Capital in late 2006. As co-Founder and CEO, Rob presided over the build-up of a 20 person team managing over USD 600m across two funds in the Equity multi strategy space. In 2010, DragonBack opened its infrastructure to launch new funds and transition existing managers on to the all-encompassing platform. Rob brings over 25 years' experience in Asia Pacific Capital markets, the last 16 of which were based in Hong Kong.
Head of Finance
Glenn joined Ascalon in 2008 as the Company’s Financial Controller and brings over 20 years’ experience gained primarily through blue-chip Australian wealth management firms. In his role, Glenn is responsible for Ascalon’s overall financial operations and reporting, business planning, financial regulatory requirements and corporate finance activities. Glenn also provides finance and corporate support for a number of Ascalon’s partner firms. Prior to joining Ascalon, Glenn has held major roles at GIO Asset Management as Corporate and Fund Accounting Manager and as Financial Controller for a number of St George Bank’s wealth management businesses including Advance Asset Management (also a member of the Westpac Group). Glenn holds a Bachelor Business (Acc.) and is a member of CPA Australia.
Head of Legal and Compliance
Delia joined Ascalon in 2013 and is responsible for overseeing Ascalon’s legal and compliance framework in the Asia Pacific region. Delia manages Ascalon’s risk, compliance, legal and governance functions. In understanding the importance of a partnership model, Delia and her team also provide guidance to investee firms partnering with Ascalon. Delia has over 14 years’ experience in the financial services industry with companies such as Avoca Investment Management and Westpac, and in private practice. Her past experience includes being a Senior Associate in retail banking with Mallesons, where she advised large financial services corporations on credit and investment products, privacy, and consumer protection.
Head of Investments
Andrew manages Ascalon’s investment process, working within the management team to develop our business partnerships. This involves identifying and evaluating strategic investment opportunities. Andrew was previously an Investment Manager in the Multi-Manager Group at GAM – a role which saw him select, allocate and monitor investments into Asian Hedge Funds. Andrew has been working in the hedge fund industry for over 10 years, and has over 20 years' of experience in financial services.
Global Business Development
Katarina is responsible for global business development for Ascalon’s partner firms and brings over 17 years’ hedge fund experience, having started analysing hedge funds in London for Aurum Funds Ltd in 1996. Here she also helped the founder of EuroHedge launch the first and longest-running dedicated trade magazine in 1999 for the hedge fund industry in Europe, and then subsequently Asia. After 11 years doing manager selection, Katarina then moved to Hong Kong as Portfolio Specialist for Cannizaro Capital in 2008 before helping launch Asian event-driven fund, Senrigan, in 2009. There, she grew assets to over USD 1.1 billion before joining Ascalon in May, 2013.
Adeline is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Ascalon’s investment vehicles and the relationship with HSBC - the administrator and custodian of Ascalon’s partner firms. Prior to joining Ascalon, Adeline was at BT Financial group where she primarily worked within fund accounting. Adeline has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales.
Head of Sales Australia
Damien joined Ascalon in 2014, having previously been a founding partner of Triple A Partners, a fund marketing and advisory firm based in Sydney. Triple A Partners was originally founded as Hatfield Liptak Advisors and joined the global Triple A Partners group in early 2010. With Triple A Damien raised over $2 billion on behalf of US, UK and Australian fund managers. Prior to founding Triple A, Damien was an Executive Director of Pengana HedgeFunds Group, an ASX listed company. Pengana incubated and seeded six Australian based hedge funds including the Pengana Absolute Return Real Estate Fund and Wallace Australia Opportunities Fund. Damien raised over US$200 million for the Pengana funds in an eighteen-month period. Prior to Pengana, Damien was Head of Hedge Funds for Colonial First State. Prior to CFS Damien assisted Basis Capital in their initial setup. Damien started an alternative asset business at Deutsche Bank (Sydney) in 1992 and worked for Deutsche in Hong Kong until 1999. Damien was the founding Chairman of AIMA Australian Chapter and was the first recipient of the Australian Hedge Fund Industry Contribution Award in 2005.
